Course Purpose:

In South Australia a person must be licensed as a building work contractor if they carry on a business of performing building work for others, or performing building work with a view to the sale or letting of land or buildings improved by that work.

One of the requirements to get a contractor's licence in South Australia is to meet the business criteria requirements. PCD Training's SA Contractor licence business criteria course meets Option 2 of the Consumer and Business Services business criteria requirements.

Course requirements:

To successfully complete this course, you are required to complete two (2) nationally accredited units of competency. Nationally recognised training Australia These units are BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business AND BSBSMB404 Undertake small business planning.

On completion of BOTH of these units, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the two units above.

Completed one unit elsewhere and only need to complete one? Not a problem, just let us know and we will amend your training plan and invoice.

Enrolment period, or duration, for both the online option and workshop option is twelve (12) months. That is, you need to complete all training and assessment within this enrolment period. You will be able to ask for a no-fee extension if required. The amount of training and assessment which occurs during the enrolment period will be dependant on a number of factors including, but not limited to your current level of knowledge and skills, breaks in study, distractions, etc.

You can complete the course either entirely at home online, or you can choose to come to one of our workshops where you can access the help and support of our trainers. To see the list of upcoming workshops, click here.

To complete the course at home online, you will need a computer/laptop/phone/tablet, etc with a webcam and connected to the internet. We provide everything required at the workshop. In either case, you will not need to purchase any additional resources such as programs, materials, books, etc.

While the nominal duration for the workshop option is two (2) days, you will still have the twelve month enrolment period to finish the course, in case you do not complete all assessment at the workshop. Please note: attending the workshop does not guarantee that you will successfully complete the units of competency. You may have to complete uncompleted assessments at home, or attend another workshop to complete.

Fees

The fees for this course is $600 for the online option and $650 for the workshop option. This is the full Fee For Service price as no subsidies or funding applies or is available.

Fees can be paid by credit card (no surchage applies), direct deposit or cash (workshop only).

Fees are payable once all asseessments have been successfully completed, and before we will issue you your certificate.

Only need to complete one (1) unit? Not a problem, fees will only be $300 for the online option and $325 for the workshop option.

PCD Training also does not participate in any loan schemes, such as VET Student Loans, etc. So you will not incur a debt with the government by enroling in this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Have you got existing knowledge and skills that you feel may enable you to apply for RPL for the BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business, and BSBSMB404 Undertake small business planning units? Then try our skills assessment form.

Please note:
Keep in mind these few things -
1. Even if the skills assessment form indicates 'likely' that you may be eligible for an RPL, this in not guaranteed as it will depend on you providing evidence, etc.
2. In addition to providing suitable evidence, you will also be required to attend an interview and answer quizz questions.
3. The fees for RPL are the same as enrolling in the course and completing the assessments, you don't save any money.
4. In alot of cases it can take longer to complete going through RPL than just completing normally.

Entry requirements

There are no designated entry requirements for this course. However, you will need a sound working knowledge of basic maths, and be able to read, write and understand standard English, similar to what is used in this information. If you are unsure of your Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) standard, please request our LLN Tool.

You will also be required to download and upload files. You will also need access to a computer/laptop/tablet, etc which has, or on which you are able to install, a web-cam and has internet access.

Assessment

Participants will be required to complete a range of assessments, including uploading of files of work completed and video responses. Assessment requirements are outlined in the relevant unit.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available. This will require uploading of evidence documents, the completion of a skills history document, an online interview which will be recorded, recording of an experience video, answering quizz questions, etc.

Why PCD?

Holding a building licence from a licensing authority shows that the person has appropriate knowledge and experience in the building industry. Knowledge and experience that can be imparted to you to help you with your contracting business. Both our trainer’s hold a current building licence.

3.Can I start the course before paying?
Starting a course before having to pay shows that the training provider stands behind the quality of training they offer, and not out to rip your money from your pockets. With PCD Training, you can start (and even complete) the course before paying. If you are not happy with it at any point, simply stop doing it as you haven’t paid anything up front.

4.It’s two business units that I must do, but will it be relevant for my contracting business?
With PCD Training, YES. Some providers just use generic training resources that have been developed by a third-party company. These materials are generic in nature and cover business generally. We have developed our own learning resources and assessments and have contextualised our materials specifically to a building or trade contracting business.

5.Every state has different legislation, I live in South Australia so will I learn things relevant to me in South Australia
With PCD Training, definitely. Not only have we contextualised our training resources to a building and trade contracting business, but we have also contextualised them specifically to South Australia. So, you will learn relevant things for your contracting business IN South Australia.

6.When will I get my certificate?
As soon as you have successfully completed all tasks, and we have received your fees, you will be emailed a copy of your certificate INSTANTLY. You will also be able to access a copy in our system. Under the standards for registration, RTO’s must issue certification within 30 days. At PCD Training we do it instantly.

7.I haven’t heard of PCD Training before, how long has it been going?
PCD Training has been training since 1998. Our RTO number, 1820, indicates that we have been around for a while.

8.Your price seems to be in between other providers. I have seen it as cheap as $330 and as dear as $1000, why is that?
The cheap ones could be using the generic resources that costs them about $40 from their supplier and require you to do 200, 500, or more, word essays. The dearer ones usually have high overheads such as several staff, offices, cars, etc that they must pay for. We consider our price to be fair for quality training and we have limited overheads.

9.Can I get help and support?
Definitely, and not just in standard “business hours”. Apart from asking question by email at any time, you can also contact us by phone or ‘chat’ Monday to Thursdays from 7.00am to 8.00pm and Fridays from 7.00am to 5.00pm all times are AEST).
